Boron

Boron is a vital element, quite important for the normal development and health of the body.

Boron has been shown to be an important trace element because it is essential for the growth and maintenance of bones, improves wound healing, positively affects the use of estrogen, testosterone and vitamin D by the body, enhances magnesium absorption, increases antioxidant enzyme levels, protects against oxidative stress caused by pesticides in ingested foods and heavy metal toxicity, improves brain electrical activity, cognitive performance and short-term memory in the elderly, has also demonstrated preventive and therapeutic effects in prostate cancer, cervical cancer, and can even help improve the adverse effects of chemotherapy.

Boric acid, a form of boron, can kill the excess yeast (fungus found on the skin, in the digestive tract and in the vaginal area in women) that causes a vaginal infection known as candidiasis.

However, all of boron’s beneficial effects do not occur at intakes of less than 3 mg/day.

Boron is found in the following foods

Almonds (2.82 mg/100 gr.), avocado (1.43 mg / 100 gr.).

Apple, broccoli, peanut butter, dry peanuts, pecans, prune juice, grape juice, red wine (each of these have per 100 gr. under 0.7 mg.)

It is also found in supplement form of 3 mg./ capsule or in powder form of 5 mg./100 ml powder.

When taken by mouth: Boron is possibly safe when used in doses not exceeding 20 mg per day. Higher doses may also cause poisoning.

If you have any kidney disease, DO NOT take boron supplements because the kidneys are overworked trying to excrete the excess.

Boron and athletes

Findings that boron can increase physical strength and lean body mass are not considered significant. It can help, as noted above, in the development and maintenance of bones and in improving the healing of possible wounds.

Practical shooting and boron

There is no reason for practical shooting athletes the use of boron supplements for potential benefits in their training or during a match. A balanced diet containing boron can help, as it does for all people athletes or non-athletes.
