6 categories of foods that disrupt sleep

If our evening meal is 3-4 hours before bedtime, which foods should we avoid so as not to disrupt the quality of our sleep?

1. High-fat animal protein foods

High-fat meats and very fatty cheeses, due to the increased fats they contain, will delay their digestion and absorption by the body, resulting in worse sleep quality.

2. Fried foods

Fried foods can cause bloating or even heartburn in the stomach due to the excessive oil they absorb, preventing sleep.

3. Legumes

They are one of the healthiest foods, but their phytochemical content makes them indigestible and not such a good choice for an evening meal.

4. Cruciferous vegetables

From this category of vegetables, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower slow down digestion, resulting in bloating.

5. Spicy foods

Spicy foods cause indigestion and also raise body temperature, resulting in restless sleep.

6. Sweets

The sugar they contain raises blood glucose levels and this can cause sleep disorders.

If we consume the above foods in very small quantities, of course, they will not affect the quality of our sleep, nor will they cause insomnia.

A full plate of legumes with sausage, 100 gr. fatty cheese and cabbage salad will definitely cause us problems with our sleep.

The time of the evening meal is very important.

If our evening meal is at 6:00 pm and our bedtime is at 12:00 am without consuming any other food in between, then it is most likely that we will not have any problems sleeping with the consumption of the foods we mentioned.
