6 Food Categories that improve Hearing

Age-related hearing loss slowly reduces hearing and often affects adults over 65.

Key symptoms include difficulty hearing high-pitched sounds such as telephone rings or microwave beeps, while low-pitched sounds are usually audible.

Causes include genetic, environmental, lifestyle factors, and side effects from long-term medication use.
Genetic factors include genetic predispositions and the natural aging of the auditory system with age. Environmental factors include long-term exposure to loud noises, as well as health problems such as heart disease and diabetes. Long-term use of aspirin and certain antibiotics also affects hearing loss.

There are no magic cures that will reverse hearing loss, but a healthy diet can slow its progression.

There are foods that support hearing health, help fight the progression of ear damage, and keep hearing sharp. These foods are listed below:

1. Foods containing B VITAMINS
Whole grains strengthen the nerves in the inner ear due to the B vitamins they contain.

2. Foods containing OMEGA-3 and VITAMIN D
Fatty fish such as salmon, flaxseed, walnuts, egg yolk, mushrooms strengthen the strength of the bones of the inner ear and improve the auditory pathways.

3. Foods containing VITAMIN C
Citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, grapefruit), papaya, mango, pineapple, and hot chili peppers, yellow red and green sweet peppers, Kale, brussels sprouts, broccoli & cauliflower, cabbage, garlic contain vitamin C, protecting against ear infections.

4. Foods containing ZINC
Zinc is found in beef, lentils, beans, seafood, pumpkin seeds, dark chocolate, enhances the growth of cells in the ears and acts as a factor in combating tinnitus.

5. Foods containing POTASSIUM
Bananas, kiwi, melon, pomegranate, fig, cherries with the potassium they contain improve blood flow to the inner ear and help regulate glutamate, which is the messenger for signaling between the sensory hair cells of the cochlea and the nerve fibers that carry sound information to the brain.

6. Foods containing GLUTAMATE
Tomatoes, cheese, mushrooms, walnuts, scallops and oysters contain the substance glutamate, without which there would be no hearing.

Adding these foods to our diet will help us to have better ear function and slow down the natural aging process leading to hearing loss.
