During breastfeeding, the breastfeeding mother should follow a balanced diet with a variety of foods and adequate hydration.
The coverage of the breastfeeding mother in components such as calcium, folic acid, vitamin D3, iron, iodine, omega-3 fatty acids is important for successful milk production during the breastfeeding period.
Foods that enhance milk production in breastfeeding mothers are:
1. Natural fruit and vegetable juices
2. Milk
3. Soups
Chicken soup, meat soup, vegetable soup
4. Foods rich in phosphorus
Eggs, milk, cheese (mainly gruyere and parmesan), red meat (mainly beef), fish
5. Fatty fish
It is rich in omega-3 fats (mackerel, salmon, sardines, herring)
6. Beer
It contains phytoestrogens in its yeast that stimulate milk production. One glass a day is enough.
7. Anise
NO more than 3.5 grams a day in water as a beverage to be consumed throughout the day.
8. Water
At least 9-11 glasses a day
Foods that can cause gas in an infant are the following: cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, tomatoes, peas, legumes, watermelon, strawberries, grapes, peas, or chocolate.
We can stop their intake for a few days and reintroduce them in a smaller quantity and frequency if we see that they cause anxiety and gas in the infant.
We should also limit coffee to 1 cup per day.
The most effective method for milk production is frequent and proper breastfeeding.
Supportive measures such as stress reduction, rest and proper nutrition undoubtedly help maintain breast milk production.
