10 Habits or Advice we SHOULD NOT Follow

As we try to pay attention to our diet in order to have wellness and health, we hear and read a lot. Some of it is correct and some is completely wrong.

Habits or advice that we should NOT follow:

1. We eat only when we are hungry

When the feeling of hunger comes, blood glucose has already dropped to low levels and because of that we will definitely eat more than if we ate at the times we have planned. We will also definitely have the tendency to consume many carbohydrates.

2. We drink water with meals

Consuming water with food can dilute the stomach juices and the digestive enzymes found in them to delay the digestion of food, we will also feel bloated if we consume a lot of water. We can consume up to a glass of water with our meal, if we want more we can do it 1 hour later.

3. We eat one large meal a day

The body can digest and absorb a certain amount of food at each meal. If we consume more food than the body can process through digestion and absorption, then it will become fat.

4. We only eat fruits all day

Monophagy diets such as fruitarianism have no scientific basis. If we want to lose some extra pounds and decide to eat only fruit, then it is certain that we will create problems for our health if we try to do it for a long time. If the ambient temperature is very high and we are on a beach for vacation, we can do a day of fruitarianism without a problem. If we do monophagy diets for a long time, our diet is not balanced, basic nutrients are missing and it will result in a rapid drop in our energy and the consumption of a larger amount of food than we used to eat before, if we stop it.

5. We do not eat vegetables

Consuming vegetables has significant benefits for our body, constituting an essential part of a balanced diet. Vegetables contain many vitamins, minerals, fiber, simple carbohydrates, antioxidants and act as a protector against diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases, they keep our intestines and skin healthy, and they hydrate us.

Vegetables cannot be replaced by any other food, we must find some of the wide variety of vegetables that exist, and add them to our diet.

6. We don’t eat breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and gives us the necessary energy and nutrients that our body needs. Most people skip breakfast completely, creating a bad eating habit, as after not eating during the night, the body needs energy to function properly.

7. We only count calories without calculating where the calories come from

The quality of the calories, from which foods they come, is important for a balanced diet, much more so if it is a weight loss program.

If we have to consume 1200 calories and we consume 1200 calories from sweets, we should not expect proper results in the program we follow.

8. We eat protein supplements as a meal replacement

Supplements are not to be consumed instead of foods that have proteins. They are, as their name suggests, supplements.

The consumption of protein supplements by athletes means that at times it is not possible to consume protein food (e.g. immediately after training) or also if protein food is consumed it must be in such a large quantity that it may not be possible or the fat intake will increase considerably with the large quantity of protein food, which is something we do not want.

9. We only eat snacks throughout the day

Snacks are NOT a complete meal, they are small amounts of food or drinks that we consume between main meals. If we consume ONLY sandwiches, sweets, buns, cakes, fruits, nuts throughout the day we will definitely have a lack of nutrients which in the long run will result in the creation of health problems.

10. We drink a lot of coffee and energy drinks for….energy

The main stimulant in coffee and energy drinks is caffeine. Caffeine modifies the way our brain cells interact with adenosine, a neurotransmitter compound, and also increases cortisol levels, increasing our alertness. A cup of coffee will give you energy for about 1 to 1.5 hours. If you don’t eat during this time, a second cup of coffee after the first one won’t have the same effect, but will give you more jitters than energy.

Consuming coffee and energy drinks in moderation will benefit you, but without moderation it will make you sick.
