Avocado is a fruit with high nutritional value and several health benefits.
100 grams of avocado have 8.5 grams of carbohydrates (7 grams of fiber and only 0.5 grams of sugars, 2 grams of protein and almost 15 grams of fat (about 10 monounsaturated, 2.5 saturated and 2 polyunsaturated), it is a fruit with a high calorie content, about 157 calories but with good calorie quality because its fatty acids are mainly monounsaturated.
It contains enough potassium, minimal sodium, a small amount of vitamin A and calcium, vitamins K, E, C, B1, B3, B6, folic acid, magnesium, iron, phosphorus and a large amount of boron.
The benefits of avocado in our body are the following:
1. It is rich in potassium and helps the heart function.
2. Contains antioxidants which protect the skin from premature aging and sun damage.
3. Contains folic acid, which helps treat depression.
4. Contains vitamins B1 and B6, which help increase white blood cells (white blood cells are a key part of the immune system, helping to fight disease and infection).
5. It is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, which help reduce cholesterol and triglycerides.
6. Contains the antioxidant vitamin E, which together with vitamin C significantly improve skin by supporting collagen and resisting oxidative damage.
7. Contains vitamin K, a fat-soluble vitamin that is essential for modifying proteins required for blood clotting, supports the maintenance of normal bone condition and reduces the risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures.
8. Contains beta-sitosterol, which helps reduce inflammation associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
9. It is rich in boron, boron has been shown to be an important trace element, and among other things, it is essential for the growth and maintenance of bones, improves wound healing, positively affects the use of estrogen, testosterone and vitamin D by the body, enhances magnesium absorption.
10. It is an alkaline fruit and helps balance the pH in the body.
Avocado is also one of the few fruits that contains protein (2 grams per 100 grams of product), a rare amount for fruits, and this amount can be calculated in specific nutritional plans.
You should avoid consuming avocado:
1. If we have gas and/or bloating in the abdomen.
It can cause more discomfort and diarrhea and/or vomiting.
2. If we have an active allergy.
Avocado can increase histamine and can make antihistamines less beneficial.
3. If we have kidney failure or high potassium levels.
Avocado has a high amount of potassium and should not be consumed in these conditions.
4. If we have liver problems.
Avocado contains estragole and anethole, which can cause hepatotoxicity if we already have a problem with liver function.
