5 Cereals that contain Protein


The most well-known sources of protein are meat, fish and seafood, eggs, cheese and dairy products. However, there are also some plant-based options such as legumes that contain high levels of protein, as well as some cereals that contain more protein than other cereals. The amount of protein they contain is not huge compared to wheat, but it is present.

Cereals that contain and offer us energy from carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and trace elements, as well as protein are millet, buckwheat, oats, bulgur and barley.

Millet

Millet contains per 100 grams of cooked product 3.5 grams of protein, 1 gram of fat, 23.6 grams of carbohydrates of which 1.3 are fibers and gives us 115 calories.

Buckwheat

Buckwheat (truly it is a pseudocereal as it is essentially a seed and not the fruit of the plant) contains per 100 grams of cooked product 3.4 grams of protein, 0.6 grams of fat, 19.9 grams of carbohydrates of which 2.7 are fibers and gives us 93 calories.

It does not contain gluten, has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, helps in better absorption of glucose by cells and in better control of blood glucose levels and can be cooked like rice, added to salads, breakfasts, in the form of flour in pancakes, crepes and prepared like bread.

Oats

Oats contain per 100 grams of cooked product 3.3 grams of protein, 0.9 grams of fat, 11.4 grams of carbohydrates, of which 2.6 are fibers and gives us 62 calories.

It does not contain gluten, is rich in fiber, mainly in beta-glucan, which helps reduce cholesterol and stabilize blood sugar and can be used to make soups, burgers, smoothies, cookies.

Bulgur
Bulgur are dried cracked wheat. Per 100 grams of cooked product, they contain 3.1 grams of protein
, 0.2 grams of fat, 18.6 grams of carbohydrates, of which 4.5 are fibers, and they provide 79 calories.

They are very high in fiber and help the intestinal system function properly. They can be added to salads, in burgers, and cooked on their own with aromatic vegetables on top.

Barley

Barley contains per 100 grams of cooked product, 2.3 grams of protein, 0.4 grams of fat, 28.1 grams of carbohydrates, of which 3.8 are fibers, and they provide 118 calories.

They are very high in fiber and help the intestinal system function properly. We can make bread, put it in salads, or eat it boiled.
