Artificial intelligence refers to learning and by extension the attempt of machines to reproduce the cognitive functions of a human, such as learning, planning, creativity.
Artificial intelligence systems are capable of adapting their behavior, to a certain extent, by analyzing the stored information they have and the new information they receive.
Artificial intelligence is usually applied to specially constructed machines or computers and its creators aim to use it in all areas of human activity.
AI in nutritional advice
Checking the progress of AI in providing food and nutrition advice so far, it can be used with relative safety ONLY for quick reminders of general principles of healthy eating, simple explanations related to nutrition and for basic questions on nutrition.
AI is wrong and should NOT be used in the following cases:
1. There is a medical condition
2. There are psychopathological factors that affect nutrition
Some essential disadvantages of AI on nutrition are the following:
1. It does not mention the disadvantages of diets.
2. It does not mention the emotional side of eating (appetite, motivation) or the factors that cause it.
3. It does not mention the difference between hunger and cravings and the positive solution to this problem during a mainly hypocaloric diet.
4. It creates a diet without asking about food preferences, possible allergies, that is, WITHOUT KNOWING the medical history and the history in general of the person asking.
5. It is optimistic about strictly restrictive approaches to food for weight loss.
6. The calorie allowances for weight loss, if requested, are particularly low and pose a risk of malnutrition.
7. It does not take into account emotional eating, possible skipping meals or long-term behavioral change during a weight loss diet and, by extension, nutrient deficiencies and their solution.
8. It emphasizes quick changes that are unrealistic.
9. It is particularly eager and gives advice on nutritional supplements without being asked. This advice is general and could encourage unnecessary use.
10. Its advice on the immune system is wrong as it does not encourage the balance of the immune system but its… increase.
11. It did not provide sufficient guidance on when to seek professional support from a specialist.
Artificial intelligence is here to stay.
It has changed our daily lives and will continue to do so.
In some areas it has made our lives easier, but it is a given that those who use it frequently now limit their thinking by preferring the ready-made PROPOSAL of AI.
Critical thinking ? will it be lost ? has it been lost in parts ?
The choice of AI in creating nutrition and diets is up to you.
Be careful what you choose, the consequences are also part of our choices.
