Balanced caffeine consumption in the form of coffee or as a supplement has been shown to have benefits in metabolism, improved physical performance, cognitive function, thermogenesis, insulin sensitivity and hormonal regulation.
In the results of the study published on May 12, 2025, entitled Coffee Intake Reduces Short-Term Carbohydrate and Lipid Consumption, we saw that after consuming coffee we had a statistically significantly lower intake of immediate and short-term carbohydrate consumption, immediate protein consumption and short-term lipid consumption.
Overall, the calories consumed both immediately after coffee administration and during the rest of the day were significantly lower.
The coffee dosage was approximately 5 mg caffeine/kg body weight and was given to a group of volunteers who were young, healthy, of normal weight, non-smokers and not dependent on caffeine.
It is possible that the results would have been slightly different if the research was conducted on people who have been using coffee in large doses in their diet for many years, due to caffeine addiction, resulting in a dose of 5 mg caffeine/kg being too low for them.
The body’s ability to develop tolerance to caffeine is evident when we notice that we need to increase its intake to achieve the same result.
Coffee consumption, with its anorectic effect due to the lower immediate and short-term consumption of carbohydrates, proteins and lipids, can help in better managing our weight and in weight loss, especially if accompanied by a balanced, lower-calorie diet and increased activity.
Do not expect miracles in weight loss from coffee, but it is certain that its careful intake will help a lot.
