Hunger or Craving for Food ?

Hunger and cravings are completely different.

Hunger can affect food cravings, but cravings do not mean that we are hungry.

A food craving is an intense and persistent desire for a specific food.

Our hunger can be satisfied by eating almost any food simply by filling our stomach. Cravings can usually only be satisfied with a specific food or a specific type of food such as a sweet or some type of salty or even fatty food or snack.

Hunger can be satisfied with any food, including healthy meals, while cravings usually come to us for unhealthy foods such as sweets, salty snacks, etc.

Cravings usually do not disappear as much as we exercise self-control or they will temporarily stop and return later. This of course does not mean that we should always give in to cravings because this will result in moving away from our goals for good physical condition or for a possible weight loss that we want.

Our diet planning should contain as many filling foods as possible, even if we are on a diet, especially since we know our vulnerability to cravings.

Satisfying combinations are animal protein foods with and at the same time fibers from vegetables e.g. beef steak with vegetables or boiled eggs with cheese and vegetables or fish and vegetables, if the vegetables are boiled they are even better. Such meals keep us fuller for longer due to the protein (which the body takes a long time to digest) and the vegetables which, due to the fiber they contain, make us feel bloated.

If we have a craving for something sweet, let’s try to replace it with 1 tablespoon of honey (it is super-sweet and will temporarily stop our craving) or with dried figs or dates which are sweet fruits.

There is no point in completely avoiding the foods we crave we just shouldn’t overdo it.

If we do a weight loss diet, once a week it is enough to consume something we crave while paying attention to the quantity we consume.

If we do not do a weight loss diet, twice a week is a good choice which will help us to rest mentally and we will have a greater mood to keep our healthy and balanced diet without deviations.
