Nutrition for Candidiasis

Candidiasis is an infection by the Candida fungus and can affect parts of the body such as the skin, mouth, throat, genitals and blood.

The Candida fungus is present in small inactive amounts in the human body, but can, with the decline of the body’s defenses, develop in warm and moist parts of the body.

Treatment of candidiasis includes immediate administration of antifungal medication. If not treated, the fungus can enter the bloodstream, causing serious complications that require hospitalization and intravenous treatment.

Foods that we should avoid to heal candidiasis faster are:

1. Sugar and all sugary products

White or brown sugar as well as all sweets that contain sugar help the development of Candida mycosis.

2. Simple processed carbohydrates

Foods such as crackers, chips, white bread, pastries, and bagels should be avoided because they also help Candida growth.

3. Moldy foods

We should avoid moldy foods such as cheeses such as Roquefort, Gorgonzola, and Stilton.

4. Mushrooms

Mushrooms are fungi and may contribute to candida overgrowth, but not all of them.

Some mushrooms, such as Shiitake and Turkey Tail, have been shown to have anti-fungal properties, including against Candida, and these should not be eliminated from our diet.

Foods that will help us fight candida are:

1. Garlic

Garlic is a powerful natural antifungal and against candida, thanks to the powerful active compounds called allicin and ajoene.

2. Coconut oil

Caprylic acid, found in coconut oil, is a known natural antifungal agent that helps fight candida.

3. Protein foods

Protein foods such as eggs, chicken, fish, and legumes help reduce Candida colonies.
